I also shoot a couple rolls of B&W every month and scan them on the V ED. I still shoot Kodachrome and E6, at least 1 roll a month. Let em know if you have any other questions. Also, Kodachrome may not do well under DigitalICE since it still retains some silver (it is B&W film after all!!!). This process does not work for B&W Film since the silver is retained on the negative, unlike E-6 and C-41 where is it washed away. The IR light passes through the film without picking up any color, but it does point out where there is dust on the frame. Basically, the V ED has a Red, Green and Blue LED Light source as well as an IR light source. Changing slides does not change the focus of the application - so if I am surfing the web on Firefox, ViewScan never pops up in front of it.ĭoes the 4000 have DigitalICE? I am doing other things on the PC when it is scanning a slide. I have it start the scanning process automatically when a slide is inserted. Notice I didn't click on any buttons here. My workflow is basically put a slide in and let it scan, take it out and insert another one. Is your workflow too slow for you? I use VueScan from. The Epson scanner will come close to the 4000, but it will not exceed its quality.

I think my expectation for scanned slides will not be too high. Will the new technology of the Epson now outperform the older Nikon 4000? I'm tempted to buy a new Epson V500 flatbed photo scanner and gang up my slides. I've scanned less than 20 slides since I've had it, and it's a very slow and tedious process. I have a Nikon Coolscan 4000 plugged into my computer now, collecting dust.

I have about a room full of old color slides from my travels and colorful adventures. I was a K-64 kind of guy in my formative photo years. Once in a while, us old guys get an urge to scan some of our old color slides from the 70's as a once-in-a-life project.
